Location

The conference will be held at Pilestredet 35, Oslo, at the Faculty of Engineering, Oslo University College.

Getting to the conference from the airport

Taking a bus form the airport is the most convenient way to the conference. It is marginally cheaper, takes slightly longer, but is rather straightforward.

  • The SAS Bus leaves from the airport bus stop B17 every 20 minutes (30 minutes after 21:00). Get off at the last stop, the Radisson SAS "Scandinavia" hotel at Holberg's Plass. This costs about 20 Euros and takes an hour. You buy your ticket on the bus. The Rica Holberg hotel is just across the street from the terminus, straight ahead.

  • The express train from the airport to Oslo S train station or National Theatre. This takes about 20 minutes and costs slightly more than the bus. You buy your ticket from machines or from the counter by the platform entrance. If you get off at Oslo S (central station), you should take a taxi to your hotel.

If you get off at NationalTeateret (national theatre) walk towards the exit in the direction that the train came from, up the escalator and take the exit in the large hall to the right. If you are staying at the Rica Holberg or SAS Radisson hotel then the hotel is about a 200m walk across the Palace park from the National Theatre Station. (Walk towards the "dark tower" SAS hotel to your rear when you exit from the National Theatre station -- see pictures below.)
    Exit here
    Climb the steps
Follow the tower across the park
    Past the palace
Past the flight bus stop to the hotel on the left and conference location on the right

Payment in Norway

The currency in Norway is the Norwegian kroner (NOK). You can pay for most things in Norway by VISA/Mastercard. Cash is not entirely a thing of the past, but Norway has come a lot farther than most countries in eliminating it.

Trams in Oslo

Oslo has trams in the city. Please be aware that trams always have right of way, even on road crossings without traffic lights. Please take care around the trams!

If you will travel by tram, we recommend that you buy a "Flexi" card with 8 clips on it. This is the cheapest way to travel unless you travel more than three journeys per day. This can be bought from the driver with cash or from any newsagent/kiosk.

Tourism

Travelling to Norway in the summer can be an exciting tourist experience. Check out some of the attractions, and spend a few days extra? The 23rd of June is the day of Midsummer celebrations known as St Hans eve, from the ancient pagan celebration of the solstice. At this time people traditionally light bonfires. In Norway, you can enjoy practically 24 hour sunlight, weather permitting!

Flmbanen

A very nice and popular trip is to take the train to Flm and then a boat through thr fjord to Bergen and back.
